CALL FOR PAPERS HYPOGEA 2026 – 5th International Congress of Speleology in Artificial Cavities

The Scientific Committee of HYPOGEA 2026 invites the submission of abstracts for consideration in the scientific program of the Congress.

HYPOGEA is an international interdisciplinary forum dedicated to the study, documentation, conservation, and sustainable management of artificial cavities and underground cultural heritage. The Congress provides a platform for the presentation of original research, methodological approaches, case studies, and theoretical contributions related to Rock-cut Cavities heritage across diverse geographical and cultural contexts.

Submissions are welcomed in (but not limited to) the following thematic areas:

  • Archaeology and history of artificial cavities
    • Rock-cut architecture
    • Conservation, restoration, and material studies
    • Geological and environmental frameworks
    • Digital documentation, 3D modelling, and remote sensing

Abstracts will undergo scientific review by the Congress Scientific Committee. Accepted contributions will be included in the official program as oral or poster presentations.

As we welcome the arrival of 2026, the Organizing Committee of the HYPOGEA International Congress extends its warmest New Year greetings to our global speleological community.

This year marks an exceptional milestone for us as we prepare to host the 5th International Congress of Speleology in Artificial Cavities in Tbilisi, Georgia. It is a privilege to enter this “Congress Year” together, building upon a century and a half of Georgian scientific tradition and the legacy of our previous meetings in Rome, Cappadocia, Dobrich, and Genoa.
